The 2011 UMass Sport Career Fair was held on November 17, 2011 in the Campus Center Auditorium at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. It was the second straight year that the Association of Diversity in Sport (ADS) organized the career fair, which was again a smashing success. Representatives from 40 sports organizations attended the event, spanning seven states along the east coast. Once again, over 300 students attended the event.
The event began with opening remarks from Peter Luukko, the President and COO of Comcast-Spectacor. Mr. Luukko, a UMass alum, kicked off the career fair by discussing his experiences in the sports industry and gave career tips to the audience.
The 2011 UMass Sport Career Fair featured the inaugural McCormack Sport Panel Series, which included 45-minute panels on Event Management, Team Operations and Scouting, Sport Sales/Sponsorship, and Sport Marketing. The sports panel series ran concurrent to the Career Fair, allowing students to learn about the industry as well as giving them the opportunity to speak with organizations in attendance. In all, the career fair featured 13 guest speakers.

For the 2011 Sport Management Career Fair, ADS introduced the McCormack Sport Panel Series, a unique opportunity for students to learn first hand about different areas of the industry from the professionals themselves. The 2011 McCormack Sports Panel Series featured expert speakers from event management, team operations/scouting, sport sales/sponsorship, and sport marketing.
Event Management
There is so much that goes into putting on a successful event. Our experts will give students an inside look at how to succeed when managing an event. This panel was moderated by J.R. Westveer, Assistant General Manager and Director of Operations at the Mullins Center, and included the following speakers:
Team Operations/Scouting
This panel featured experts from collegiate and professional scouting personnel along with other team operations personnel who gave insight into the lifestyle, intricacies, etc. of player evaluation and team operations. This panel was moderated byProfessor and Ph.D. Candidate Kevin Snyder and included the following speakers:
Sport Sales/Sport Sponsorship
The Sport Sales/Sport Sponsorship panel gave students an opportunity to learn about the intricacies of and the large amounts of money involved in sport sponsorships. Students learned about the different jobs that both sales and sponsorship offers. This panel was moderated by McCormack Dept. of Sport Management Professor Stephen McKelvey and included the following speakers:

The Sport Marketing panel gave students an understanding of what goes into creating and promoting a successful sport brand. This panel was moderated by Professor and Ph.D. Candidate Mark Groza and featured the following speakers:
Event Management

The Sport Sales/Sport Sponsorship panel gave students an opportunity to learn about the intricacies of and the large amounts of money involved in sport sponsorships. Students learned about the different jobs that both sales and sponsorship offers. This panel was moderated by McCormack Dept. of Sport Management Professor Stephen McKelvey and included the following speakers:
