The third annual Mark H. McCormack Department of Sport Management Career Fair was held on November 8th, 2012 on the campus of the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. The fair was originally created to get sports industry executives and the future leaders of the sports industry together to network and discuss potential employment opportunities. This idea has flourished into an event that annually features over forty sport organizations and three hundred McCormack Sport Management students in attendance. Not only is the networking between organizations and students the focal point of the event, but also the McCormack Panel Series. The panel series has been in place for two years and has been a great host for discussion on different topics and career advice on having success in the industry. Students work year-round to make the Career Fair a successful and mutually beneficial event for the organizations, panelists, and students.
In 2012, the McCormack Career Fair hosted forty sport organizations that was headlined by the Big East Conference, the New York Mets, the PGA Tour, and the Philadelphia Flyers. Many other fantastic sport organizations were in attendance that were able to network with students from the premier sport management program in the world. We received a lot of valuable feedback from students regarding gaining internships and employment from organizations in attendance. For the entirety of the day, there are very positive interactions between students and representatives from the organizations that are important to the Career Fair's success. We also hosted the best McCormack Panel Series that we have had in our history that featured executives from the AHL, Comcast-Spectacor, and ESPN. The panels were based on college athletics, player representation, and social media. All the panels had terrific content and were well attended by students looking to gain knowledge on a variety of sectors in the sports industry.
